Our story
A factory,
not a middleman.
Swahili Knits Limited was founded in 2020 with a specific ambition: to manufacture, in Tanzania, the cotton apparel Tanzania was importing. The founders were not new to it. Years on a factory floor, starting with two sewing machines, had already taught us what this market actually lacked. And it was not suppliers.

The problem was not supply.
It was reliability.
Buyers here were never short of options. They were short of suppliers who answered the phone, hit a date, and produced the second batch to the same standard as the first.
That is a harder problem than it sounds. It is why so many orders in this region still go offshore, not because the price is better, but because the certainty is.
So we built Swahili Knits around that problem. Every stage under one roof, from fabric in to finished goods out. Quality checked during sewing, not after it. Approved samples and colour references kept on file, so a repeat order a year later actually matches. Terms stated up front, not renegotiated after a deposit.
Today Swahili Knits is a garment factory at 104 Sandali Street, Dar es Salaam, employing over 100 people. We take an order from fabric to finished, packed garment without leaving the building: sourcing, cutting, sewing, printing, embroidery and finishing, all in house.
We make t-shirts, polo shirts, corporate uniforms, workwear, hospitality wear, woven shirts and private label programmes, for businesses, institutions, NGOs and brands across Tanzania and East Africa. The garments got more complicated. The approach did not.
“Our mission is to exceed our customers' expectations in every aspect of our business.”

Dar es Salaam · Our home port and our market
Tanzania grows the cotton. For years it left raw and came back as finished garments with someone else's margin on it. Every order we take keeps a little more of that value, and a little more of that work, in Dar es Salaam.
That is the whole idea. It was the idea with two machines, and it is the idea with a hundred people.
We are the factory
No middleman, and no order quietly forwarded to someone else's production floor. When you visit 104 Sandali Street, you meet the people who will make your garments.
The second batch matches the first
Anyone can make a good sample. Consistency is the hard part. Approved samples, measurements and colour references are kept on file, so a repeat order next year matches the one you approved last year.
We quote one price
Our terms are stated before production starts, not renegotiated after a deposit. If we have quoted against an approved sample and a signed specification, that is the price and that is the garment.
We answer
The most common complaint about suppliers in this market is not price or quality. It is silence. We answer the phone, and if something has gone wrong you hear it from us first.
We grow people, not just output
Most of our team joined with no garment experience. We train here. Every skilled machinist on our floor is a Tanzanian who learned the trade in this building.
A factory visit tells
you more than a quote.
If you are evaluating suppliers, come to the floor. An hour walking the cutting table, the sewing lines and the print room will tell you more about whether we can do your job than any amount of correspondence.
